FAQ on Al-Noor VA School

a) What is VA (Voluntary Aided) School?

A voluntary aided school (VA school) is a state-funded school in which a foundation or trust (usually a religious organisation), contributes to building costs and has a substantial influence in the running of the school.

In a voluntary aided school:

  • the governing body employs the staff
  • the local education authority provides support services
  • the pupils have to follow the national curriculum
  • the admissions policy is determined and administered by the governors in consultation with the local education authority and other relevant schools in the area.

b) How long will the Primary school move to the Newton Ind Est for the temporary relocation?

The primary school will relocate to the Newton Ind Est for approximately 18-24 months from September 2016 inshallah.

c) Is there a chance that we will stay in the Newton Ind Est longer than 18 months?

Yes, this could be the case if the reconstruction takes longer than planned. The re-build is completely managed by the Local Authority. Their plan of construction is expecting to take 18 months. But construction projects can take longer than planned and we will update our parents as we get further updates.

d) When the independent school children move back to the Green lane site, will those children receive free education?

No. Al-Noor Independent primary school children will always pay fees. The benefit of moving back to Green lane site will be that they will benefit from brand new building, resources, large classroom, state of the art facilities, etc

e) How do I apply for the VA school?

Local authorities coordinate the admissions process for all. The local authority will release details of the application close to the time of when the school will open. We will share these details on our website when this has been released.

f) What will the catchment for VA be?

The catchment area depends upon the applicants we receive. We do not know what that will be without the school opening.

g) Will Al-Noor VA school still be able to teach Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qur’an

Yes, we expect to teach all these topics within the Voluntary Aided School

h) How old does my child have to be before I can apply for VA school?

The VA school will open with Reception and Year 1. Therefore, if your child is eligible for those year groups when the VA school opens, then you can apply to the school.

i) Will the standard of education be the same in the VA school?

Al-Noor never compromises on the quality of education it provides to its students and we expect to reach the high standards we have set ourselves.

j) Will the independent school be taking reception children for September 2017?

No firm decision has been made on this. We will make a final decision on this in October 2016

k) When we will have the secondary school open?

The project to open a secondary school is a long term project. Alhamdulilah, phase 1 is complete which was to secure the site, which has been completed. We then need to secure planning and then build. This is likely to take at least 3-5 years.

l) Can the independent school children move to the VA school (for example if there are Year One pupils in the Independent school)

Anybody, including Al-Noor Independent School children can apply to the VA school. However, an independent school child will be subject to the same admissions criteria as any other applicant.
