Fundraising

Sister's Fundraising
Another fore-runner of the PTFA is the Sisters’ Fund Raising sub-committee. This is a group of mothers and friends of Al-Noor School who are a part of the pioneering group that help raise funds to set the school up. They organise fund-raising events, working very hard to host smoothly-run and enjoyable events, such as the School Fun Day in the first term and the well-executed Parenting Conference at the end of the second term.

Collection Boxes
The parents of Al-Noor have unstintingly helped to raise large sums for the school, not least through the collection box emptying exercises we hold every term.

School Trips

We aim to take our pupils regularly on trips to support the curriculum. We have taken our classes to the Museum of Childhood at Bethnal Green this year and will take them to London Zoo in the last week of term Insha Allah. Both trips support aspects of the curriculum which have been covered this year. Simple curriculum-linked activities were carried out by pupils on the first trip and “hands-on” workshops have been booked in advance in the Education Centre at London Zoo.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Sports Academy

We aim to develop excellence in all aspects of our children including their physical well-being. To meet this challenge we are striving tocreate the Al-Noor sports academy through which we will provide a number of extra-curricula activities. A number of these activities are made available to children not currently at Al-Noor. Currently we provide football training and instruction in martial arts. Please contact us for more information.

Quran Academy

Al-Noor Quran Academy is a centre for the study of Quran. We provide classes for children and adults who wish to learn to recite and memorise the Quran.

School Events

Iftaar - Ramadan 2004
The trustees, in association with MAB, hosted, a well attended iftaar gathering for the local community. The evening also provided a series of (inspiring) Islamic talks.

School Play
During the Hajj period Al-Noor produced a school play that featured every pupil in its cast! It was about three young boys who dreamed of performing the pilgrimage of Hajj and its sacred rituals of worship. The back-drop was amazing and painted by the students and staff members; a dramatic scene of the mountains and valleys in which the Hajj takes place. The play was impressively written and directed by M.Khan.

Councillor visits/Open Day 2004
The trustees hosted two open days this year for local councillors and dignitaries to visit and become acquainted with our school. This went some way towards mutual recognition and understanding, our visitors leaving the school consistently pleasantly surprised and struck by our high standards and the warmth of our school environment. Councillors who visited our school included:

  • Councillor Burgess
  • Councillor Ejaz
  • Councillor Radford
  • Councillor Newcombe
  • Councillor Nolan
  • Councillor Noor
  • Councillor Norman
  • Councillor Singh
  • Councillor Scott

South Park Primary Assemblies - 2004
Our teachers visited South Park Primary school twice this academic year to give assemblies on ‘Eid al-Fitr and ‘Eid al-Adhah. South Park was very grateful for our input and we too felt it benefitted our school to have curricular links with neighbouring schools, very much in-keeping with our Islamic teaching of neighbourliness and da’wah.

Goodmayes Primary - 2003/04
The Headteacher of Al-Noor made contact on several occasions with Goodmayes Primary finding the Headteacher there, Mrs. Lopez-Stewart very helpful and supportive.

Eid Party - 2003
On the occasion of ‘Eid al-Fitr, we held an ‘Eid party for our pupils. Parents generously donated delicious food dishes from all over the world for the occasion, which the children (and grateful staff!) enjoyed.
